#501 - Secret World Live, Peter Gabriel

"Peter Gabriel's second double-disc live album doesn't have the energy of Plays Live, which isn't surprising; his newer material is more subtle and doesn't easily lend itself to live performances. That's part of the reason why the Secret World tour was filled with cutting-edge visuals and stage effects. Unfortunately, it's very hard to record a light show, and the result is a thoroughly bland album." (allmusic guide)

#500 - The Times They Are A-Changin', Bob Dylan

"His absurdity is missed, but he makes up for it with the wonderful "One Too Many Mornings" and "Boots of Spanish Leather," two lovely classics. If there are a couple of songs that don't achieve the level of the aforementioned songs, that speaks more to the quality of those songs than the weakness of the remainder of the record. And that's also true of the album itself -- yes, it pales next to its predecessor, but it's terrific by any other standard." (allmusic guide)

#499 - Guero, Beck

"Beck reunites with the Dust Brothers, revisiting Odelay's Zippy the Pinhead "junk=art/art=junk" pop thrift shop. A return to funked-up fun, though many strong tracks -- "Missing," "Broken Drum" and "Scarecrow" -- suggest that there remains a spark of humanity behind that famously vacant thousand mile stare." #498 - Living In Clip, Ani DiFranco

"When this live set came out in 1997, a number of critics remarked that it captured the energy of that relationship better than the albums she recorded in the isolation of the studio. That it does. DiFranco's public exhibition of emotion, and her self-deprecating banter in between songs, add to the feeling of openness that is essential to her music (essential both because she is an activist for the politics of honesty and because her personal vulnerability is necessary to keep those politics from seeming pedantic)."
