Random Thoughts

This time of year is so very strange. Everyone is trying to hurry up so they can relax. I say just relax. There's plenty of time for hurrying later. Or better yet, just forget the hurrying altogether.

Over the past several months I've been really getting into Wilco in a big way. I have to put my headphones on and queue up some tracks from Summerteeth or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and it takes time to truly understand everything that's going on in these songs. But it's so, so worth it. Every time I listen I discover something new. There is something so amazing about this band that I just never bothered trying to find. Wilco moves me. How awesome is it to drive down the road and yell the words to "Can't Stand It"?

Currently the song I'm obsessing over is Barbeque by Animal Liberation Orchestra. Normally I'm not the 'jam-band' type but this song is just about perfect.

welcome to your barbeque
where we roast all the dreams
that never came true
pig out and dream anew

Wilco is great and they keep getting better. If you have a chance, listen to their new live album, Kicking Television: Live in Chicago. They sound just as good live as they do in the studio. Also, check out Mermaid Avenue. It's a collection of songs written to Woody Guthrie lyrics. Wilco co-wrote the music along with Billy Bragg.

    Keep up the good blogging.
